WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement regarding the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.
“I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and supporters of Benazir Bhutto as they mourn her unfortunate and untimely demise. The cowardice exhibited by the extremists who carried out this assassination stands as another reminder of the clear and imminent threat that terrorists pose to humanity and the advancement of democracy.
“The individuals responsible for this violence are enemies of peace and we must continue to combat their repugnant attacks through the promotion of acts that bestow freedom and equality to all people seeking to participate in representative forms of government.”
