WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today commented on the passing of Indiana Rep. Julia Carson.
“I’m saddened by the passing of my friend and colleague, Juila Carson. She served with passion, dedication and a sense of humor. It was her strength and determination to overcome obstacles of poverty and racism, and her commitment to the people of Indiana that made her stand out as a leader in Congress. After serving 18 years in the Indiana General Assembly and six years as Center Township Trustee, she became the first woman and first African American to represent Indianapolis. Her commitment to improving financial literacy and healthcare for all Americans, her work to establish a congressional Gold Medal for Rosa Parks and her lifetime of pubic service will serve as her living legacy. My thoughts and prayers go to her friends and family during this time of grief.”
