WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement regarding passage of H.R. 4299, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007:
“The September 11th terrorists sought to not only kill innocent American civilians and destroy critical infrastructure, but they also sought to destabilize our country’s economy. Passage of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act works to ensure that our economy does not falter should our nation suffer another attack.
“H.R. 4299 seeks to maintain our economic vitality through such attacks by making sure that terrorism insurance is made available for long-term construction projects taking place in some of America’s busiest and most vulnerable metropolitan areas. Furthermore, this legislation works to make sure that group life insurance carriers remain solvent and capable of paying large-scale claims in such unfortunate circumstances.
“This New Direction Congress understands that our nation remains under a constant threat from certain extremists seeking to do us harm. By passing H.R. 4299 and other pieces of legislation vital to our national security interests, Democrats stand united in advancing a legislative agenda that strengthens our ability to deter and combat terrorist attacks.”
