WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement regarding passage of H.R. 4351, the Alternative Minimum Tax Relief Act of 2007:
“The AMT Relief Act works to responsibly shield 23 million hard-working American families from getting hit with an unfair tax increase. And unlike President Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy, the targeted middle-class tax relief offered in this Democratic-sponsored proposal is paid for and will do nothing to increase our looming budget deficits.
“This New Direction Congress is working to progressively advance our tax policies down a more conscientious and equitable path. By lessening the tax burden of middle-class Americans, the AMT Relief Act seeks to bring more fairness to our tax code.”
