Washington, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement regarding House Republican’s effort to sustain the President’s veto and stop passage of the Labor-HHS-Education bill.
“Today House Republicans acted as enablers to the President. They helped block funding the President called ‘excessive’—investments in the Pell Grant program our public health infrastructure, medical research, home heating assistance, and job training programs. Yet earlier this week, the President, and his House Republican Enablers said $50 billion in deficit spending was not enough to continue the status quo in Iraq.
“Today’s vote made clear the priorities of this President and his Rubberstamp Republicans. They would kill a fiscally responsible budget bill that invests in the future of our children, strengthens our work force and enhances health services for all Americans, yet request another blank check to spend recklessly on a failed war in Iraq.”
