Washington, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn released the following statement today in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from September 15 to October 15.
“Hispanic Heritage Month is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the magnificent contributions that Hispanic Americans have made in advancing our society and enriching our nation’s cultural diversity. For centuries, Hispanic Americans have served as a vital thread in the rich and colorful tapestry that makes America great.
“With a rapidly growing U.S. Hispanic population, this Democratic-led Congress has promoted a legislative agenda that has worked to improve the standards of living and quality of life for all people of color. By passing the first minimum wage increase in a decade and pushing through historic legislation that makes landmark investments in Hispanic-Serving Institutions, my Democratic colleagues and I are committed to securing a strong and sustaining future for our Hispanic communities.
“As the highest ranking racial minority serving in Congress and as the first minority to represent South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives post-Reconstruction, I understand the importance in recognizing the contributions of all the various racial and ethnic minorities who enhance our social order. I salute the Hispanic American community and thank them for all of their contributions and many sacrifices in making America better.” |
