Clyburn on the 60th Anniversary of the Integration of the Armed Forces

WASHINGTON, DC — House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today participated in a U.S. Capitol Rotunda ceremony to commemorate President Truman’s executive order signed 60 years ago that marked the beginning of racial integration in the Armed Services. Other participants in the ceremony were House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader John Boehner, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell, and two distinguished members of the 370th Regiment, 92nd Infantry (Buffalo) Division, Captain Spencer C. Moore and Sergeant A. William Perry.

And once again, we’re committed to providing additional federal assistance in these areas. We’re committed to relieving any excessive financial burden on Gulf Coast recovery like state cost-share and federal regulatory responsibilities. And we will work on legislation to investigate the failure of the federal government to respond to this disaster."
Clyburn to Lead Congressional Delegation to Gulf Coast this Weekend

WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today announced that he will be leading a congressional delegation which includes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to the Gulf Coast region to mark the three-year anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The trip will run from July 19-22, with events and meetings scheduled in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana as well as Waveland and Bay St. Louis Mississippi that focus on the issues of housing, health care, education, infrastructure, public safety and more. Clyburn is a leading voice in Congress on Gulf Coast recovery issues and this is the third consecutive year he will be leading a trip to the region.
Clyburn Supports Drilling

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In Response to a Presidential Executive Order lifting the ban on offshore oil drilling, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today called on the energy industry to tap the 68 million acres of public land onshore and offshore currently open and available for energy production in the United States in order to combat supply shortfalls and high energy prices. Clyburn also renewed his call for President Bush to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve—an action taken at least three times by past presidents.
