WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today commented on the bipartisan passage (246-182) of H. Con. Res. 63, a resolution disapproving the decision of the President to deploy more than 20,000 additional U.S. combat troops to Iraq:
“We lost our footing in the last two Congresses, and as a result, our nation lost its way on the international stage. This is a first step for the Congress toward regaining our footing and reestablishing our role as arbiters and deliberators. And it’s a first step for our nation toward a new direction in Iraq and the Middle East.”
